British-Nigerian rapper Dave is set to make a long-awaited return to his roots after announcing his first-ever headline concerts in Lagos. The award-winning artist will bring his The Boy Who Played The Harp tour to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts on October 16 and 17, giving Nigerian fans their first opportunity to see him headline a show in the country.
Born and raised in London to Nigerian parents, Dave has often spoken about the influence of his Nigerian heritage on his life and music. Over the years, he has grown into one of the most respected voices in British rap, earning widespread acclaim for his storytelling, social commentary, and introspective lyricism. His debut album Psychodrama won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2019, while subsequent projects, including We’re All Alone in This Together and The Boy Who Played The Harp, topped charts and solidified his place among the UK’s biggest music stars.
While Dave has built his career primarily within the UK rap scene, he has consistently embraced Nigerian talent and culture. His collaborations with Nigerian artists have helped strengthen the connection between Afrobeats and British rap, introducing both genres to wider audiences. One of his most notable partnerships came with Burna Boy on the hit single Location, while he has also worked with Tems, further highlighting his support for Nigerian artists making an impact globally.
Beyond collaborations, Dave has often used his platform to celebrate African excellence and amplify the achievements of artists from the continent. His music and public appearances have reflected a strong appreciation for his roots, making his upcoming Lagos concerts particularly meaningful for fans who have followed his journey from afar.
The Lagos dates are expected to be among the most anticipated concerts of the year, serving as both a homecoming and another reminder of the growing cultural ties between Nigerian music and the global entertainment industry. For Dave, it marks a chance to perform for an audience that has long embraced him, while for fans, it is an opportunity to witness one of the most influential rappers of his generation take centre stage in the city that remains closely connected to his story.
