Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has reportedly become the first African artiste to surpass 12 billion streams on Spotify across all credited appearances, marking another major milestone in his international music career. However, independent tracking platforms have reported different figures, and Spotify has not officially confirmed the record.
The milestone was reported on Monday, October 26, 2026 by WizStatz, a fan run account that monitors the singer’s streaming performance. The figure includes streams from songs where Wizkid is the lead artiste, as well as tracks on which he appears as a featured performer. This means his collaborations and guest appearances contribute to the overall total alongside his own releases.
One of the biggest contributors to Wizkid’s streaming numbers is One Dance, Drake’s 2016 global hit featuring the Nigerian singer and British artiste Kyla. The song has accumulated more than 4.5 billion Spotify streams, helping introduce Wizkid’s music to a wider international audience.
Another important record in his catalogue is Essence, featuring fellow Nigerian singer Tems. Released in 2020 on Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album, the song gained international recognition in 2021, particularly after a remix featuring Canadian pop star Justin Bieber. Its success helped bring Afrobeats to a broader audience and strengthened Wizkid’s global profile.
Other popular songs contributing to his musical legacy include Ojuelegba, Joro and Come Closer, featuring Drake. These releases reflect the different stages of his career, from building his reputation in Nigeria to establishing a strong presence in international music markets.
Wizkid was previously reported to have crossed 10 billion Spotify streams across all credits in January 2026 and 11 billion in May. The latest reported milestone would represent another step in the singer’s continued streaming success.
However, the exact total remains disputed among independent trackers. Kworb’s October 25 update placed Wizkid at approximately 11.66 billion streams, while ChartMasters records a different timeline for the milestone. These differences highlight why the 12 billion figure should be treated as a reported achievement rather than an officially confirmed Spotify record.
Despite the discrepancy, the reports have renewed attention on Wizkid’s lasting popularity and the growing international reach of Nigerian music. His catalogue of solo releases and global collaborations continues to demonstrate how Afrobeats artistes are reaching listeners far beyond Africa.
