The Federal Government has dismissed reports suggesting that its education data platform was hit by a cyberattack, clarifying that there is no evidence of any breach or disruption to the system.
Authorities say the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS), which stores and manages nationwide education data including school records, student enrolment, and teacher information, remains secure and fully operational. The clarification comes after concerns were raised about a possible compromise of the platform, which plays a key role in education planning and policy across the country.
Officials explained that while cybersecurity alerts are sometimes triggered by system warnings or technical checks, such notifications do not automatically indicate a successful hacking attempt or data breach. They urged the public to disregard rumours suggesting that sensitive information had been accessed or leaked.
The education platform, managed by the Federal Ministry of Education, is part of ongoing efforts to digitise and centralise learning data across Nigeria. It supports government initiatives aimed at improving planning, tracking learners, and strengthening accountability in the education sector.
The denial follows growing public concern over cyber threats targeting government systems, with agencies increasingly stepping up security measures to protect digital infrastructure.
Despite the alarm, the government insists that there has been no cyberattack and that the platform remains safe for use.
