American actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. Mitte’s representatives confirmed his death on Monday, October 12, 2026, describing him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate advocate for disability rights. No cause of death has been announced. According to the Associated Press, Cameron County Justice of the Peace Cyndi Hinojosa said Mitte was pronounced dead at about 1:30 p.m. in Brownsville, Texas, and that an autopsy would be conducted.

Mitte rose to international recognition through Breaking Bad, in which he portrayed Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s central character, Walter White. The series, which aired from 2008 to 2013, became one of television’s most celebrated dramas, earning a devoted global audience.

His performance also carried personal significance. Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child, and his character in Breaking Bad shared the condition. Drawing on his own experiences, he brought greater authenticity to the role and helped broaden conversations about disability and representation in entertainment.

Beyond acting, Mitte became a prominent disability rights advocate. He worked as an ambassador for organisations including United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and served as president of the Mitte Foundation, which supported philanthropic and community initiatives related to disability. His other screen credits included the television series Switched at Birth and Guardians of Justice, alongside work as a producer on independent films.

Mitte’s death marks the loss of an actor whose public profile extended beyond his work on screen. Through his performances and advocacy, he helped challenge stereotypes about people living with disabilities and encouraged more inclusive representation in the entertainment industry. Tributes are expected to continue as fans and colleagues remember his contribution to television and disability awareness.
