Kenya’s Labour Minister has come under growing pressure following allegations linking him to the recruitment of young Kenyans for work opportunities that reportedly led some individuals into Russia’s military network amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The accusations emerged after reports claimed that several Kenyan nationals were recruited under the promise of employment abroad but later found themselves involved in activities connected to Russia’s war effort. Critics and human rights groups have called for a thorough investigation into the recruitment process and the role of government officials.

The minister has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his office followed legal procedures in facilitating overseas employment opportunities and had no involvement in any form of forced military recruitment.

The controversy has sparked debate in Kenya over the protection of migrant workers and the need for stronger oversight of international labour agreements. Lawmakers and civil society organisations are demanding greater transparency to ensure citizens seeking jobs abroad are not exposed to exploitation or conflict-related risks.

The case has attracted international attention as concerns grow over reports that foreign nationals from several African countries have been recruited under misleading circumstances and later linked to Russia’s military operations.
