A total of 42 South African nationals have been deported from Ireland overnight as part of an immigration enforcement operation carried out by Irish authorities.

The group made up of nine men, 18 women and 15 children, were all part of family units and were removed on a specially chartered flight from Dublin Airport to Johannesburg.

According to officials, the deportations were executed under existing removal orders and formed part of Ireland’s wider immigration enforcement strategy. The operation involved escort personnel, medical staff, interpreters and a human rights observer to ensure procedures were properly followed.

The Irish government has defended such operations, stating that deportations are necessary to maintain a rules based immigration system and ensure public confidence in border control. Authorities also noted that thousands of deportation orders have been issued in recent years, with increasing use of charter flights to carry out removals.

While officials stressed that most South African nationals in Ireland live legally and contribute positively to society, they said enforcement actions remain necessary for those without legal status or who have breached immigration rules.
