World leaders have begun arriving in Évian-les-Bains, France, for the 2026 G7 summit, where major economies are set to discuss global security, economic stability and ongoing geopolitical crises.

The summit brings together leaders from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the European Union, alongside invited partners from countries including India, South Korea, Brazil, Kenya and others.

This year’s meeting is expected to be dominated by discussions on the aftermath of the Iran conflict and efforts to stabilise energy markets, particularly concerns around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. Leaders are also expected to focus on the war in Ukraine, global trade tensions, and the regulation of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who is hosting the summit, has positioned the gathering as a platform for rebuilding international cooperation at a time of heightened political and economic uncertainty. Security has been significantly tightened across the region, with authorities deploying large-scale police and military resources ahead of expected protests.

U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders are also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, with diplomatic efforts focused on maintaining momentum from recent ceasefire negotiations involving Iran.

The summit, which runs for several days, is seen as a critical moment for global diplomacy as leaders attempt to balance competing national interests with broader international stability.
