Italian manager Antonio Conte has announced he will leave Napoli this summer, bringing an end to a two-year spell that included a Serie A title triumph and a disappointing European campaign.
Conte, who joined Napoli in 2024 after previous spells with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, confirmed his departure following the club’s 1-0 victory over Udinese in their final match of the season.
Speaking alongside club president Aurelio De Laurentiis at a joint media conference, Conte described his time in Naples as “an exceptional experience.”
“It’s been an honour, really special to coach Napoli,” Conte said. “It was my decision. I told the chairman a few weeks ago. Napoli will always be home.”
The 56-year-old guided Napoli to their fourth Serie A title in his debut season, restoring the club to the top of Italian football after years of inconsistency. However, the following campaign proved more difficult as Napoli finished second in the league, 11 points behind champions Inter Milan.
Napoli also endured frustration in the UEFA Champions League, failing to progress beyond the group stage — an area where Conte has historically struggled despite his domestic success across Europe.
The club attempted to strengthen the squad last summer with the arrivals of high-profile players including Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Hojlund. However, injuries and inconsistent performances prevented Napoli from mounting a sustained title defence.
Conte had reportedly considered leaving the club at the end of last season before talks with De Laurentiis convinced him to remain for another year.
Speculation has already begun regarding his next destination, with Conte being linked to the Italian national team job. When asked about the possibility, the former Juventus and Inter Milan coach joked: “My advice would be to hire Pep Guardiola.”
Napoli must now begin the search for a new manager as they prepare for another campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
