A Ghanaian blogger known online as WebkidAfrika has been arraigned before court after allegedly publishing offensive and false social media posts targeting award-winning dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and his family.
The blogger, identified as Abdul Gafaru Sadi, was reportedly arrested on May 7, 2026, as part of an ongoing cybercrime investigation linked to inflammatory online content shared on X, formerly Twitter. Prosecutors allege the accused published misleading and provocative statements intended to damage the reputation of the musician and incite online hostility against his household.
According to court documents, the accused is facing charges under Section 76 of Ghana’s Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), relating to the publication of false news through electronic communication platforms. He has also been charged with offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Investigators claim that some of the social media posts described Stonebwoy using insulting language and included allegations involving his family. Prosecutors argued in court that the publications encouraged additional users online to attack the musician and his relatives with abusive comments.
The case reportedly intensified after concerns emerged over missing content from Stonebwoy’s YouTube channel in 2025. Following internal investigations, suspicion allegedly turned toward a former social media manager connected to the artiste, prompting a formal complaint to Ghana’s Criminal Investigations Department. The matter was later transferred to the Cybercrime Unit for further investigations.
Authorities further allege that several bloggers may have been recruited as part of a coordinated online campaign targeting Stonebwoy and his family. Security officials say investigations are continuing to identify other individuals who may have participated in the alleged scheme.
The arrest has triggered widespread debate across Ghana’s entertainment industry and social media space, with supporters of both Stonebwoy and fellow dancehall artiste Shatta Wale reacting strongly online. Some users defended the legal action, arguing that online harassment and false publications should carry consequences, while others questioned whether the arrest represented an attack on freedom of expression.
Stonebwoy’s public relations representative, Vida Adutwumwaa, has denied claims that the musician personally orchestrated the blogger’s arrest, insisting that legal authorities were simply acting on formal complaints and evidence gathered during investigations.
However, lawyers connected to the case later confirmed that Stonebwoy is officially listed as the complainant in the matter. Reports indicate that prosecutors may pursue additional charges as investigations continue.
The case has once again highlighted growing concerns about cyberbullying, misinformation, and fan rivalry within Ghana’s entertainment industry, where tensions between supporters of major artistes have frequently spilled onto social media platforms. Analysts say the outcome of the case could shape future discussions around digital accountability and online conduct in Ghana’s music scene.
