James Rodríguez has been at the centre of concern after reports linked him to a possible serious muscle-related illness, but Minnesota United FC has firmly rejected those claims and confirmed the midfielder is recovering well.

The 34-year-old was taken to hospital after falling ill during international duty with Colombia national football team. He had featured in Colombia’s 3-1 loss to France national football team on 29 March, where he began showing signs of illness before his condition worsened.

Doctors later treated him for severe dehydration, and he remained under observation for three days. Although early medical updates described his condition as a non-football related health issue, limited details led to widespread speculation online about a more serious problem.

Some reports suggested he could be suffering from rhabdomyolysis, a rare condition that causes rapid muscle breakdown and can, in severe cases, result in kidney damage. The speculation spread quickly due to concerns about how dangerous the condition can be for professional athletes under intense physical strain.

However, Minnesota United quickly moved to clarify the situation. The club stated that medical examinations showed no evidence of rhabdomyolysis, stressing that the rumours circulating in the media were not supported by clinical findings.

Rodríguez has since returned to the training ground, where he took part in a carefully managed, light training session under supervision. While he has not yet rejoined full team training, the club says his recovery is going in the right direction and will continue to be monitored closely.

The former star of Real Madrid CF and Everton FC has only recently begun his MLS journey, having made two appearances since joining Minnesota United in February. With the worst fears now dismissed, attention is turning back to his gradual return to full fitness and his expected contribution to the team in the coming weeks.
