Afrobeats star Ruger has firmly denied rumours of a feud with global hitmaker Davido, describing the narrative as a social-media creation rather than reality.
The controversy began when a Davido fan account on X (formerly Twitter), claimed that Ruger’s success depended on him publicly apologizing to Davido. In response, Ruger questioned the basis of the accusation, asking whether Davido had ever said he wronged him.
Ruger went on to clarify that he has genuine affection for Davido and believes it is mutual. He noted that people from Davido’s camp still repost his work and insisted he would never accept any online agenda suggesting tension unless Davido himself confirmed it directly. His comments highlighted how fan-driven narratives often fuel unnecessary drama in the Afrobeats scene, especially when linked to members of the so-called “Big Three”: Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
Although Ruger has sometimes been associated with Wizkid’s fanbase, he stressed that any perceived rivalry with Davido is nothing more than social-media noise. His stance reflects a broader trend of artists pushing back against baseless online conflicts that overshadow their music and relationships. This isn’t new for Ruger, who previously encouraged unity among the genre’s heavyweights and even called for a collaborative effort between Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
As of now, Davido has not publicly responded to Ruger’s remarks. Still, Ruger’s clear, calm dismissal of the rumours reinforces the message that he holds no grudges and respects Davido. Whether the online community will let the issue rest remains to be seen, but Ruger has made his position unmistakably clear: there is no rift — only respect.
