Gunmen Attack Team Bus, Young Footballer Loses Life In Ghana

Ghana’s football community is in mourning following the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, a 20-year-old forward whose life was cut short after a violent attack on a team bus.

The incident occurred on a Sunday as a bus carrying Berekum Chelsea was ambushed by six masked gunmen armed with assault rifles. The attackers reportedly blocked the road and opened fire as the driver attempted to reverse, turning what should have been a routine journey into a terrifying ordeal. The team had been returning from a Ghana Premier League match against Samartex in Samreboi, roughly 270 kilometres from their home base in Berekum.

Frimpong, who was on loan from Aduana FC, sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and later died while receiving treatment. His death has sent shockwaves across the football world, particularly given his young age and promising future in the sport.

There were about 30 players and officials on the bus at the time of the attack. Many survived by fleeing into nearby bushes in a desperate bid to escape the gunfire, highlighting the scale of panic and danger that unfolded in those moments.

Authorities have since launched a full investigation, with Ghanaian police initiating a manhunt for the suspects. Additional personnel and crime scene experts have been deployed to the area as efforts intensify to track down those responsible and uncover the motive behind the attack.

The tragedy has once again raised serious concerns about safety within football environments, particularly during team travels. As tributes continue to pour in for Frimpong, attention is now firmly on ensuring justice is served and that stronger measures are put in place to protect players and officials from such devastating incidents.
