Talay Riley the acclaimed British singer songwriter behind hits for some of the world’s biggest music stars, has died after a fatal stabbing in east London.

Riley whose real name was Mark Orabiyi, was found with stab wounds in Silvertown on June 5 and was pronounced dead at the scene. The musician was widely respected in the music industry for writing and producing songs for artists including Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, Craig David, Zendaya, Khalid, H.E.R., and The Chainsmokers.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief from across the entertainment world. Artists including Stormzy, Craig David, Oritsé Williams, Wretch 32, Khalid, and Kehlani paid tribute to Riley, remembering him as a gifted songwriter, mentor, and positive influence whose work helped shape modern pop and R&B music.

Riley first rose to prominence after securing a major publishing deal as a teenager and went on to build an impressive catalogue of international hits. His songwriting credits included Khalid’s “Young Dumb & Broke,” H.E.R.’s Grammy-winning work, and tracks recorded by several global chart-topping artists.

Police have launched a murder investigation into the incident. Three people were arrested following the stabbing, although two were released without further action while another was released on bail pending further inquiries. Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and CCTV footage as investigations continue.

Family members described Riley as a loving son, brother, mentor, and friend whose legacy will live on through his music and the countless lives he touched. His death has sent shockwaves through the music community, with many artists and fans mourning the loss of one of the industry’s most respected songwriting talents.
