Mayorkun Celebrates 10 Years in Music With New Single ‘Home Training’

Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Mayorkun is celebrating a decade in the music industry with the release of a new single titled ‘Home Training’, accompanied by an official music video. Released on October 30, 2026, the song arrives 10 years after the singer made his breakthrough with ‘Eleko’, the 2016 hit that introduced him to a wider audience and helped launch his professional music career.

Produced by his longtime collaborator Fresh VDM, ‘Home Training’ explores the playful side of love and how being with someone special can bring out a different side of a person’s personality. The song draws inspiration from the familiar Nigerian expression ‘home training’, which refers to the manners, discipline and values people are taught while growing up. Mayorkun gives the phrase a romantic twist, suggesting that love sometimes means knowing when to follow the rules and when to let go.

Explaining the inspiration behind the track, the singer said it was about the kind of love that brings out another side of a person, adding that sometimes people need to know when to behave and when to leave their home training at the door.

The official music video, directed by Oluwaferanmi Olonade, popularly known as Mor, accompanies the release. Former Big Brother Naija housemate Dede Ashiogwu Precious features as the female lead, bringing the song’s romantic theme to life through the visuals.

‘Home Training’ also serves as the opening track of Mayorkun’s forthcoming EP, ‘Long Live, The Mayor!’, which is scheduled for release on November 30, 2026. His earlier single ‘Kaluba’ is expected to close the five track project.

Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, began his professional music journey under Davido’s record label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). Following the success of ‘Eleko’, he went on to release songs including ‘Sade’ and ‘Mama’, establishing himself as one of the recognisable voices in Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene.

His musical journey has also produced two studio albums, ‘The Mayor of Lagos’ in 2018 and ‘Back in Office’ in 2021. Other popular releases and collaborations include ‘Geng’, ‘Betty Butter’ with Davido, ‘Holy Father’ with Victony and ‘Certified Loner’.

With ‘Home Training’, Mayorkun is marking an important milestone while introducing fans to the next phase of his career. A decade after his breakthrough, the singer is using the anniversary to reflect on his journey and build anticipation for his upcoming EP.
