Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has sparked fresh controversy in Nigerian football after publicly criticizing the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over what she described as disorganized and inadequate preparations ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ajibade’s frustration stems from what appears to be a lack of structure in the team’s buildup to the continental tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco. According to reports, players were left uncertain during a crucial FIFA international window; typically reserved for training camps and friendly matches, which raised concerns about the team’s readiness for a competition of such magnitude.
In a strongly worded reaction, the forward questioned the seriousness of the preparations, especially given that the tournament also plays a role in qualification pathways for global competitions like the Women’s World Cup. She revealed that communication from the federation had been largely informal, with even basic details such as camp arrangements not clearly conveyed to players.
The situation has reignited long-standing concerns surrounding the management of Nigeria’s women’s national team, widely known as the Super Falcons. Despite being the most successful women’s team in Africa, with a record number of WAFCON titles, the Falcons have frequently faced administrative challenges, including disputes over bonuses, poor logistics, and inadequate planning.
Ajibade’s comments also highlight a growing disconnect between players and football authorities, especially at a time when women’s football is gaining increased global attention and investment. Her decision to speak out reflects not just personal frustration but a broader concern about maintaining standards for a team that has long been a symbol of excellence on the continent.
