Enzo Fernández has been suspended by Chelsea FC following controversial public comments that cast doubt over his future at the club and triggered unrest within the squad.
The Argentine midfielder, who has played a key leadership role in recent matches, will miss two games after the club took disciplinary action over remarks made during interviews. According to reports, Fernandez suggested he could consider leaving Chelsea after the next World Cup and expressed a desire to live in Spain, comments widely interpreted as hinting at a potential move to clubs such as Real Madrid.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior confirmed the decision, stating that the player’s comments were “disappointing” and inappropriate, particularly given his position as a senior figure in the squad. The club viewed the remarks as a breach of internal standards and a threat to team unity during a difficult period.
Fernandez will now be unavailable for an FA Cup fixture and a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City. The suspension comes at a challenging time for Chelsea, who are struggling with poor form and internal tensions following recent defeats and instability within the club.
Reports also indicate that some teammates were unhappy with both his comments and his conduct, further contributing to the club’s decision to act swiftly. The disciplinary move is seen as an attempt to reinforce standards and maintain focus as the team looks to recover from a difficult run of results.
Despite the punishment, Rosenior suggested the door remains open for Fernandez to return, stressing the importance of protecting the club’s culture while also supporting the player moving forward.
