Nigerian global superstar Wizkid has once again cemented his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential music artists by setting a historic record on the Billboard World Albums chart. His latest project, REAL, Vol. 1, a collaborative work with fellow Nigerian artist Asake has become the first album of 2026 to appear on the chart, extending Wizkid’s unprecedented streak of seven consecutive years (2020–2026) with placements on this prestigious ranking.
This achievement marks an important milestone in Wizkid’s career and in the broader story of African music’s rise on the global stage. For seven straight years, Wizkid has had at least one album chart on the Billboard World Albums list, a feat no other African artist has accomplished. His consistency demonstrates not only broad international appeal but also deep influence across regions and audiences that have historically been difficult for non-Western artists to reach.
Released in late 2025, REAL, Vol. 1 blends Wizkid’s polished, melodic Afrobeats style with Asake’s energetic street-centric flair. The result has resonated with both core fans and new listeners worldwide, propelling the project onto the Billboard World Albums chart early in 2026. The collaboration underscores Afrobeats’ evolution from a regional phenomenon into a globally consumed genre.
Wizkid’s trailblazing run on the Billboard World Albums chart began with releases that captivated international attention. His 2020 album Made in Lagos became a cultural and commercial milestone, remaining on the Billboard World Albums chart for years and contributing significantly to Afrobeats’ global impact. The project also saw hit singles like “Essence” (especially the remix featuring Tems and Justin Bieber) gain massive worldwide streaming and radio traction.
Subsequent projects such as Morayo in 2024 further solidified Wizkid’s presence on Billboard charts. Morayo not only delivered charting singles and robust streaming figures but also set records on the Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart by charting all 16 tracks concurrently, an indicator of its breadth and appeal.
Wizkid’s Billboard success is part of a larger pattern of global breakthroughs: he became the first African artist to surpass 100 million Shazams across dozens of countries, reflecting widespread global discovery and use of his music.
This sustained excellence on Billboard, arguably the most recognized music charting institution in the world highlights not just Wizkid’s personal career achievements, but also the continued growth and global embrace of Afrobeats. Over the past decade, the genre has moved from niche playlists to mainstream stages, influencing chart trends, collaborations, and cross-cultural musical fusion.
As Wizkid continues to release new music and tour internationally, his Billboard World Albums streak sets a compelling precedent for African artists aiming for global chart longevity. With fans eagerly anticipating future projects, Wizkid’s ability to stay relevant year after year — blending innovation with cultural authenticity — may well serve as a blueprint for sustained global success in the music industry.
