UK Pledges £25m Security Boost for Jewish Communities After Suspected Terror Stabbing in London

British authorities have pledged £25 million in additional funding to strengthen security for Jewish communities following a suspected terrorist stabbing in north London that left two men injured and heightened fears of rising antisemitism.

The announcement came a day after the attack in Golders Green, a neighborhood with a large Jewish population, where a man armed with a knife targeted individuals believed to be Jewish. The victims, aged 34 and 76, were hospitalized but are reported to be in stable condition. Police have classified the incident as terrorism and launched a counterterrorism investigation.

Officials said the new funding will be used to bolster protection at synagogues, schools, and community centers, including increased police patrols and enhanced security infrastructure. The move reflects growing concern over a wave of antisemitic incidents across London in recent weeks.

The Golders Green attack is part of a broader pattern of violence targeting Jewish institutions and individuals. Earlier incidents have included arson attacks on community facilities and vandalism, contributing to a heightened sense of insecurity among residents.

Authorities believe the suspect, a 45-year-old man, deliberately sought out visibly Jewish victims during the attack. He was arrested at the scene after being subdued by police using a Taser. Investigators are examining possible links to extremist groups, including those with alleged connections to Iran.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident as “utterly appalling” and stressed the need for a strong and immediate response to antisemitism. Government officials described the funding package as part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and resilience of Jewish communities across the country.

Community leaders have welcomed the additional support but continue to call for sustained action to address the root causes of rising hate crimes. Analysts say the latest measures highlight the growing recognition among policymakers that targeted violence against minority groups poses a wider national security concern.
