Global music stars Shakira and Burna Boy are set to headline the soundtrack of football’s biggest tournament after unveiling Dai Dai as the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The announcement has generated massive excitement across the music and sports worlds, with fans celebrating the collaboration between one of Latin pop’s most iconic voices and one of Africa’s biggest global music exports. According to reports, the highly anticipated song will officially be released on May 14 ahead of the tournament scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Shakira revealed the project through a teaser video filmed at the legendary Maracanã Stadium, where she appeared alongside dancers dressed in colours representing different national teams.
For Shakira, the new anthem represents a return to familiar territory. The Colombian superstar remains closely associated with FIFA World Cup music after delivering the hugely successful 2010 anthem Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), widely regarded as one of the most iconic football songs ever released.
Reports suggest Dai Dai will blend Shakira’s energetic Latin pop style with Burna Boy’s Afrofusion sound, creating what many expect to become one of the defining global songs of the year. Early snippets from the teaser feature uplifting lyrics and rhythmic production designed to capture the excitement and unity associated with the World Cup.
The announcement has already triggered strong reactions online, with fans praising FIFA’s decision to bring together artists from two of the world’s most influential music cultures. Social media users described the pairing as “historic” and predicted the anthem could rival the cultural impact of previous World Cup classics.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be the biggest edition in the tournament’s history, featuring an expanded 48-team format and matches hosted across North America from June 11 to July 19. Organisers are hoping the anthem will help build global anticipation for the competition while celebrating the tournament’s international diversity.
With anticipation already building ahead of the release, many fans believe Dai Dai could become another unforgettable World Cup anthem — while also cementing Burna Boy’s status as one of Africa’s most influential musical ambassadors on the world stage.
