Veteran Nigerian rapper and filmmaker JJC Skillz has ignited fresh debate in the entertainment industry with dramatic allegations that music icons Don Jazzy and D’Banj betrayed him during their early days together. Speaking on the Echo Room podcast, the Nollywood personality recounted how he reportedly supported the now-global stars in the UK, only to be left feeling back-stabbed as their careers took off.
JJC Skillz claims he played a foundational role in helping Don Jazzy, D’Banj and others when they were struggling artists in the United Kingdom, providing food, clothing, accommodation and performance opportunities. According to him, he openly sought their help to connect with influential figures in the Nigerian music industry so he could advance his own career.
However, JJC says things turned sour when he learned through fellow rapper Ruggedman that D’Banj had accused him of “cheating” them financially, despite there being no significant income among the group at that time. He asserts he was shocked and hurt by what he describes as a betrayal of trust, especially given his investment in their welfare and exposure.
He also mentioned other associates including Ayo and DJ Abass, alleging that the group collaborated against him instead of supporting his ambitions, a narrative that has stirred discussion across social media and entertainment circles.
The history between Don Jazzy and D’Banj goes back to the founding of Mo’Hits Records in the 2000s, a label that helped redefine Afrobeats and launched careers that would shape the Nigerian music industry. While JJC Skillz’s name is less central in mainstream retrospectives, he now asserts his involvement during those earlier days.
Interestingly, not all narratives paint a picture of lasting discord between Don Jazzy and D’Banj. In recent interviews, D’Banj reflected on the Mo’Hits split with respect and appreciation, noting that Don Jazzy even transferred full ownership of his catalogue to him when they parted ways, and suggesting no major personal grievances remain between them.
JJC Skillz’s revelations underscore ongoing conversations about credit, mentorship and loyalty in the Nigerian entertainment ecosystem, especially the way early contributions and behind-the-scenes support are remembered (or overlooked) as artists rise to stardom. With no public response yet from Don Jazzy, D’Banj or others mentioned, fans are eagerly watching to see if the drama unfolds further.
