Tanzania’s meteorological authorities have issued a severe weather advisory as heavy rains are expected to impact several coastal regions over the next few days, raising the risk of localized flooding and urging residents to take precautions.

According to the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), a five‑day forecast warns of significant rainfall from Wednesday, 8 April through Friday, with areas along the Indian Ocean likely to see persistent wet weather. The regions expected to be affected include Lindi, Mtwara, Tanga, Coast Region and Dar es Salaam, as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

In its advisory, the TMA classifies both the likelihood and potential impact of the rains as medium, but stresses that residents in these low‑lying coastal and island communities should remain alert. The heavier downpours could lead to localised flooding, which may disrupt daily activities and pose hazards to communities.

Officials have encouraged people to follow updates from official sources and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. The alert highlights that while heavy rainfall can bring much‑needed water to parched areas, it also carries the risk of flooding, especially in urban and poorly drained zones.

Authorities have pledged to continue monitoring the situation and provide further information as necessary, emphasising the importance of early preparedness in areas most likely to experience intense rainfall.
