Armed attackers have struck Gwon Ajang village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least eight people and injuring 10 others in a fresh wave of violence in the region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night when gunmen stormed a local gathering and opened fire on residents, triggering panic and forcing survivors to flee. Several victims died on the spot, while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired indiscriminately before escaping, leaving behind chaos and casualties. Security operatives were later deployed to the area to restore order and secure the community.
The latest attack has intensified concerns among residents and local leaders, who say repeated incidents of violence have made communities in Barkin Ladi increasingly unsafe.
Authorities have not yet released full details, but investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
