Kylian Mbappé Named Among 26 Targets in Alleged Kidnap Plot Uncovered by French Police

Real Madrid and France star Kylian Mbappé was reportedly among 26 wealthy and high-profile individuals targeted in an alleged kidnapping and home-invasion plot uncovered by French investigators.

The investigation centres on an 18-year-old suspect identified as Clément L., who was formally placed under investigation in Nanterre on August 21 over allegations linked to organised robbery. Investigators reportedly believe he was involved in a series of attacks and planned kidnappings carried out or prepared between April 11 and August 19 in several parts of France.

Mbappé’s name reportedly appeared on a list recovered from mobile phones seized during the investigation. The list contained information connected to 26 potential targets, including wealthy business owners, a rapper and other prominent individuals. Investigators are examining whether the information was being used to prepare attacks or kidnappings.

The case reportedly came to light after an April attack involving a watchmaker in Neuilly-sur-Seine. French investigators subsequently connected the 18-year-old suspect to a wider network allegedly involved in violent home invasions and plans targeting wealthy individuals. Prosecutors have also been examining communications allegedly carried out while the suspect was already in custody.

The suspect was already being held in connection with other serious criminal matters and was placed in isolation after being formally investigated in the new case. An alleged accomplice was released under judicial supervision. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been established as facts in court.

The reported targeting of Mbappé underlines the security concerns surrounding one of football’s most recognisable and valuable stars. The French forward, who plays for Real Madrid and captains the France national team, has become one of the world’s most prominent athletes, making his name and personal details particularly sensitive in any criminal investigation.

French authorities are continuing to investigate the alleged network, including the identities of the other potential targets and whether specific kidnapping plans progressed beyond preparation.
