Teenage Girl and Woman Die in Tragic Essex Beach Incident as Third Person Fights for Life

A teenage girl and a woman in her 40s have died after getting into difficulty in the sea at West Mersea Beach in Essex, while a third person remains in hospital in serious condition following the tragic incident. Emergency services were called to the beach near Seaview Avenue on Wednesday evening after reports that multiple people were struggling in the water.

A major rescue operation involving the Coastguard, RNLI, police, ambulance crews, firefighters and air ambulances was launched shortly after 5:30pm. Witnesses described seeing emergency responders perform CPR on the beach as helicopters and rescue teams searched the area. Despite their efforts, the teenage girl and the woman were pronounced dead. Two other people suffered injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.
