Seven students of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, in Zamfara State were abducted by suspected bandits after gunmen stormed their residence on the outskirts of the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda.

According to the Zamfara State Police Command, the attackers struck at about 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday and whisked the students away to an unknown destination. One of the victims reportedly escaped during the incident, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining students.

Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar said tactical police teams, working alongside military personnel under Operation Fansar Yamma, were immediately deployed after receiving reports of the attack. However, the assailants had fled before security operatives arrived at the scene.

Authorities stressed that the abduction occurred at an off-campus residence and not within the institution itself, noting that security around the polytechnic remains intact. Search-and-rescue operations have since been intensified as security agencies work to secure the students’ safe release and apprehend those responsible.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over banditry and kidnapping in Zamfara State, where communities and educational institutions continue to face recurring security threats despite ongoing military operations in the region.
