Senegal’s President Faye Announces New 30 Member Cabinet in Major Reshuffle

Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has named a new 30 member cabinet, a reshuffle that comes shortly after recent changes in the country’s top leadership structure.

The new government, announced on Tuesday, excludes members of the Pastef party led by ousted former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, signalling a shift in the president’s governing coalition. The move follows weeks of political tension within the ruling establishment.

The cabinet reshuffle comes after Sonko’s removal as prime minister and the appointment of economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo to head the government, amid disagreements over economic policy and relations with international lenders such as the IMF.

Sonko, once a key ally of President Faye, had been a central figure in the administration before growing political differences led to a breakdown in their partnership. His exclusion from the new cabinet highlights the deepening rift within the ruling bloc.

The newly formed 30-member team is expected to focus on economic stability, governance reforms, and restoring investor confidence as Senegal continues to face mounting fiscal pressures.
