Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage has finally spoken publicly about her long-rumored fallout with fellow singer Seyi Shay, and her words are sparking renewed interest in a feud that dates back over a decade.
Appearing on the OffAir with Gbemi & Toolz podcast, Tiwa didn’t just address their explosive 2021 salon altercation, she also tackled deeper accusations about blocking women’s success, faking support for female artists, and more. Her statement comes in response to Seyi Shay’s own recent revelations, which paint a much more personal picture of betrayal involving infidelity, stolen opportunities, and industry politics.
During her interview, Tiwa took aim at rumors that she had tried to “block the bags” of fellow women in the industry, including Seyi Shay. This was a pointed clapback to the narrative that she had tried to sabotage other female artists claims that have floated in the media and among fans for years.
She also revisited the 2021 incident at a Lagos salon where she was filmed in a heated exchange with Seyi Shay. Tiwa explained that Seyi’s attempt to greet her after a long period of silence came off as disingenuous, especially considering that Seyi had previously released a diss track about her as part of Kizz Daniel’s #FvckYouChallenge:
“I’m not going to pretend like we’re cool in the salon when you’ve done a diss track about me… That was huge. It was painful.”
For Tiwa, the greeting felt more like provocation than peace-making, and she chose not to let it slide.
Adding a personal layer to her defense, Tiwa revealed she had once lost a major brand deal during pregnancy, and that Seyi Shay had benefited. This moment, according to Tiwa, contradicts the idea that she’s ever blocked someone else’s success.
While Tiwa focused on the industry-level accusations, Seyi Shay, in a previous interview, revealed what she believes was the real reason for the hostility, and it’s far more personal than the public imagined.
Seyi claimed that her former personal assistant had reached out years after the feud, confessing that she had been involved in a secret affair with Tiwa Savage’s then-husband, Teebillz (Tunji Balogun):
“My ex-PA messaged me years later to confess. She said she slept with Teebillz. She was so sorry because she said it caused a lot of damage in my life and career.”
According to Seyi, the affair happened behind her back while she trusted both parties. She believes Tiwa may have assumed she was aware of the affair and, out of anger or hurt, turned against her.
Seyi said the betrayal ran deep, not just professionally, but personally. She claims that this hidden truth led to miscommunications, mistrust, and eventually public confrontations. She believes that Tiwa’s coldness may have stemmed from this unspoken wound.
The Tiwa–Seyi feud has long been painted as a typical “female rivalry” narrative in Afrobeats, but their latest revelations show it’s more complex. Tiwa Savage focuses on defending her legacy and reputation as a woman who uplifts other women. She’s angry at what she sees as false rumors and disrespect. Seyi Shay believes she was betrayed by those closest to her and emotionally wounded by a hidden affair and professional injustice.
While Tiwa’s comments are more current and are framed as a reaction to resurfaced narratives, Seyi’s recent interviews provide critical context suggesting that unresolved personal issues were simmering beneath the surface long before the diss tracks and salon drama.
So far, there’s been no public response from Tiwa Savage to the affair allegations directly. And while both artists seem to be in different emotional spaces, Tiwa defending her public image, Seyi unpacking private pain their feud continues to echo across the industry.
Whether this leads to deeper dialogue or a permanent divide remains to be seen. But what’s clear is this: what looked like a simple celebrity feud has now been revealed as a complex story of trust, betrayal, grief, and survival in the spotlight.
