Tyla Quietly Removes Lagos From Her A*POP World Tour Schedule, as Silence Surrounds Planned Nigerian Concert

South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has quietly removed Lagos from the itinerary of her A*POP World Tour, sparking fresh discussions after the Nigerian date disappeared from the official schedule without any public explanation.

When Tyla announced her 34-date A*POP World Tour earlier this week, Lagos was listed as the first African stop, with the concert scheduled for December 22, 2026. The performance was expected to precede the tour’s remaining African dates in Cape Town and Johannesburg in January 2027.

However, fans recently noticed that the Lagos date had been removed from Tyla’s official tour website. While concerts across Europe, North America and South Africa remain on the itinerary, the Nigerian stop is no longer listed.

The development follows several days of intense debate on Nigerian social media after renewed reports of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in South Africa. The planned Lagos concert became part of the conversation, with some groups and commentators calling for a boycott in solidarity with victims of the attacks.

Others argued that artists should not be held responsible for political or social issues beyond their control, maintaining that musicians should not become casualties of diplomatic or societal tensions. The differing opinions generated widespread discussion online throughout the week.
