Nigerian music sensation Bella Shmurda revealed in a heartfelt livestream that the untimely passing of his close friend, Mohbad transformed his outlook on life. He described it as a “brain reset,” triggering newfound clarity and a deeper appreciation for the wisdom his parents once imparted.
On August 16, 2025, during a conversation with TikToker Joblaq, Bella Shmurda reflected on the seismic shift in his psyche following Mohbad’s death. He said:
“RIP Mohbad. After he passed away, my brain reset, and everything changed. The way I see things in life has also changed.”
He then tied this awakening to the lessons his parents often emphasized:
“There’s a time that our parents used to tell us when we misbehave that, ‘You’re misbehaving, right? Don’t worry, very soon you will understand.’ I’m currently in that phase where I’m starting to understand. I have understood certain things.”
Mohbad, real name Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba was a rising star in Nigeria’s street-pop and Afrobeats scene. Born in 1996, he tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances that sparked national and global outrage.
His death ignited the #Justice4Mohbad movement, a broad-based social cry for transparency and accountability. This included large-scale protests, candlelight vigils, and massive spikes in his streaming numbers and music popularity, reflecting both mourning and celebration of his legacy.
Bella Shmurda has been visibly shaken by the loss. Months after the tragedy, in November 2023, he admitted to struggling with happiness and resorted to drinking as he wrestled with grief. He also vowed to care for Mohbad’s infant son, promising to keep his memory alive.
Bella’s recent reflections signal a transition from outward activism and grief toward inward understanding and personal growth. His mention of “brain reset” and understanding his parents suggests a meaningful internal shift one that could guide his next steps in music and life.
Bella Shmurda’s words “my brain reset” aren’t just a metaphor. They capture a moment when tragedy cracked open the doors to clarity. Through grief, he has begun making sense of the advice he once dismissed, and in doing so, he honors his friend by living thoughtfully, not just emotionally.
