For over 20 years, Bebe Cool has been one of Uganda’s most influential music voices. From reggae to dancehall to Afrobeats, his versatility has made him a continental star. Yet, he remains humble about his journey.

On a recent episode of Chat Space with Julie on Cosoro Radio, Bebe Cool spoke about his new album ‘Break the Chains’ his remarkable two-decade career, his deep respect for Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene, and the principles that have kept him at the top of Uganda’s music game.

One of the highlights of the interview was Bebe Cool’s excitement about his new album, Break the Chain. Explaining the title of the album, he said it is more than just a collection of songs. The project is a statement of freedom, creatively, personally, and musically. To break away from limitations, he explained that it has to be about mindset, shifting perspective, believing in oneself, and embracing a growth mindset.

“This album is about liberation,” he explained. “It’s about breaking away from limitations, from the things that hold you back, whether it’s fear, doubt, or old ways of thinking.”

The 16-track album blends Afrobeats, Afrohouse, and Afrotech with a mix of high-energy tracks and soulful storytelling. Bebe cool spoke on the power of variety in the album, emphasizing that the aim was to have people like all the songs in the album.

Bebe Cool also spoke passionately about the Nigerian music wave and how its global success inspires artists across Africa. He credited Nigeria’s strong entertainment industry structure from promoters to media as a key reason Afrobeats has achieved worldwide dominance.

“What Nigeria has done for African music is huge,” he said. “The world now looks at Africa differently. And for us in East Africa, it’s a challenge to push harder.”

Speaking on his longetivity in the music industry, he explains that it takes more than just talent but consistency. He advised the oldies in the music industry to evolve with times and not be afraid to do it. He advocated collaboration between the older generation and new generation, adding that they are not only passing knowledge but also learning from them.

“I’ve been blessed to be in this industry for a long time,” he told Julie. “It’s not just talent, it’s consistency, discipline, and knowing when to evolve.”

Bebe Cool’s chat with Julie wasn’t just a conversation, it was a masterclass in survival, growth, and passion in the African music scene. With decades of experience and an eye on the future, he remains an unstoppable force and a proud ambassador for East Africa.
