Gunmen Attack NIPSS Facility in Plateau, Kill Two Soldiers and One Police Officer

Suspected gunmen have attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State, killing two soldiers and one police officer in a late-night assault that briefly disrupted security around the strategic national institution.

The attackers reportedly stormed the area around 11:40 p.m. on Monday, opening fire on security personnel stationed at the facility. A fierce exchange of gunfire followed as guards attempted to repel the assault and prevent the attackers from breaching the institute’s perimeter. Despite the resistance, three security operatives were killed in the attack.

Residents in nearby communities said they were thrown into panic by sustained gunshots that echoed through the area during the incident. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and authorities have yet to release full details on those responsible.

Security sources confirmed that the attackers were eventually pushed back before they could gain full access to the institute, which is considered one of Nigeria’s top policy training and research centres for senior government officials. Investigations are ongoing as security agencies intensify patrols in the area.

The incident adds to the growing wave of violent attacks in Plateau State and other parts of north-central Nigeria, where security forces and civilians have repeatedly been targeted by armed groups in recent years.
