Brazil secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage with a commanding 3-0 victory over Scotland in their final Group C match. A brace from Vinícius Júnior and a goal from Matheus Cunha sealed the win, allowing Brazil to finish top of the group with seven points.
Vinícius opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added a second before halftime, while Cunha extended Brazil’s lead in the second half. The match also marked the return of Neymar, who made his first appearance for Brazil since October 2023 after recovering from injury.
The defeat leaves Scotland’s World Cup future uncertain. Although they finished third in Group C, their poor goal difference means they must now rely on results elsewhere to qualify as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams. Scotland manager Steve Clarke admitted the team’s chances of progressing are slim, describing the loss as largely self-inflicted due to costly defensive errors.
Brazil will now advance to the Round of 32 as group winners, while Scotland faces an anxious wait to discover whether its World Cup journey will continue or come to an end.
