Arsenal Face Major Transfer Decision as Brazilian Star Nears £50m Move to Saudi Arabia

Gabriel Martinelli’s Arsenal future is increasingly uncertain, with the club reportedly close to agreeing a deal worth around £50 million with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The Brazilian winger is now understood to be open to the move after initially preferring to remain in north London.

Talks between Arsenal and Al-Hilal have progressed significantly, with reports suggesting the proposed package could include an initial fee of around £50 million plus additional payments. If completed, the transfer would become Arsenal’s most expensive player sale, surpassing the previous club record.

Martinelli’s situation has changed considerably during the summer. The 25-year-old has been left out of Arsenal’s matchday squads at the beginning of the new campaign, strengthening suggestions that manager Mikel Arteta no longer sees him as a central part of his plans.

The winger had previously rejected an approach from Galatasaray, indicating that he was initially reluctant to leave Arsenal. However, discussions with the club over his position and the emergence of Al-Hilal as a serious option appear to have changed the situation. Reports now indicate that he is more receptive to a move to Saudi Arabia.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Ituano in 2019 and developed into an important attacking player during his time in London. His pace, direct running and ability to contribute goals made him a popular figure among supporters, although competition for attacking positions has increased significantly at the club.

Arsenal have also strengthened their options on the left side of attack, adding Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, while continuing to explore further attacking reinforcements. A Martinelli departure would therefore create both additional transfer funds and space within Arteta’s squad.

Al-Hilal’s interest also reflects the continued financial power of Saudi Arabian clubs in the European transfer market. The club has already attracted several high-profile international players and is now attempting to add another established name from the Premier League.

The deal is not yet completely finalised, with Martinelli still needing to agree personal terms and complete the necessary formalities. However, with the two clubs reportedly making significant progress, his seven-year spell at Arsenal could be approaching its final chapter.
