Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract extension with Manchester United, ending uncertainty over his future and keeping him at Old Trafford for another season. The agreement follows months of speculation about whether the England defender would remain at the club, especially after periods where his role in the squad appeared diminished.

The extension comes after a notable turnaround in Maguire’s standing within the team. Once the world’s most expensive defender following his £80 million move from Leicester City in 2019, he experienced a difficult hitch that included losing the captaincy in 2023 and spending time out of the regular starting lineup. At various points, his long-term future at Manchester United was widely questioned, with reports suggesting he could be allowed to leave.

However, his situation has improved significantly in recent seasons as he regained form and importance within the squad. Under the current managerial structure, Maguire has featured more regularly and has been used as a reliable option in defence during key fixtures. His performances, particularly in periods of injury crises and squad rotation, helped re-establish him as a valuable senior presence in the team.

The new deal is understood to keep him at the club until 2027, with an option for a further year depending on certain conditions. Club officials are believed to value his leadership and professionalism, especially within a squad that continues to blend younger players with established names. Despite earlier doubts about his future, his recent performances have shifted the narrative, with internal assessments recognising his importance in maintaining stability at the back.

Maguire himself is understood to have been open about his desire to remain at Manchester United, viewing the club as central to his career. The new agreement signals mutual confidence between player and club at a time when United are still working to strengthen consistency and competitiveness in domestic and European competitions.

The extension also provides continuity in defence as the club continues its rebuilding phase. With squad changes ongoing, Maguire’s experience is seen as useful both on the pitch and in the dressing room, where he remains one of the more seasoned figures guiding younger teammates.
