Nigerian singer Harrysong has admitted that his long-running feud with fellow artist and former label boss Kcee distracted him from making music and stunted his creative output during a critical phase of his career, even though the dispute is now resolved.
Speaking during a recent interview on Jusmen FM about the decades-long tensions stemming from his time with Five Star Music, the record label once led by Kcee, he revealed that rather than spending days in the studio recording new material, much of his energy was often spent thinking about replies and continued disputes with Kcee. That distraction, he said, “affected my creativity” and slowed his momentum in the music industry.
While Harrysong insists the feud has since been resolved, it traces to earlier tensions during and after his departure from Five Star Music. Past reports indicate that Harrysong accused the label of withholding royalties and unfair treatment, and even alleged that Kcee had collected earnings from some of his hit tracks for years.
This conflict became public as far back as 2017, with exchanges between the artists spilling across social media and traditional media platforms. The dispute even saw Harrysong calling for the return of royalties from hit songs like Reggae Blues, which he co-wrote and performed alongside Kcee and other stars.
Though the feud was litigious and bitter at times, Harrysong says he’s learned to develop a thicker skin over the years and no longer lets controversies derail his creative process. He noted that what once consumed his thoughts now serves as a reminder of how industry disputes can affect an artist’s output if not managed.
For many in the Nigerian music scene, this chapter underscores how personal and professional disagreements, especially between big names can ripple through careers, shaping the narratives around artists beyond their art. As Harrysong moves forward, he seems intent on refocusing on his music and creative growth.
