Nigerian Afropop star Fave has revealed the surprising reason behind her decision to formally release the AI-generated version of “Intentions,” originally by Urban Chords. The AI rendition, which used synthetic vocals engineered to sound strikingly like hers went viral earlier in the year, prompting mass tagging and emotional reactions from fans who believed the track was an authentic Fave recording.
Initially shocked by the widespread confusion, “At first, I was shocked because it wasn’t me,” she admitted — Fave revisited the track and listened more closely. What she heard wasn’t impersonation, she said, it was resonance. Fans were connecting deeply with the vocal style, to the point of feeling it belonged to her. The more she thought about it, the more she understood why people loved it.
Rather than distancing herself or demanding the AI version be taken down, she opted to embrace the moment. After consulting with the original creators, Urban Chords, and carefully discussing with her team, she decided to legitimize the track, transforming a viral remix into a collaborative, official release.
Fave explained that the decision reflects her belief in striking a balance between innovation and authenticity. AI is undeniably a part of the music world now. If her voice is used, especially with such fan-driven affection, she wants to guide the narrative herself. Rather than shy away, she prefers to own the moment and ensure the art still “has heart.”
By officially adopting an AI-generated version of a song and giving it her stamp of approval, Fave has done more than satisfy fan demand — she’s shifted the conversation. Her move underlines a growing phenomenon, the intersection of human artistry and AI-generated content in music, especially within African pop. For many longtime fans, “authenticity” meant human recordings, live instruments, and emotional nuance. Fave’s embrace of AI, with proper crediting to the original creators suggests a new path where technology and genuine artistry coexist.
Moreover, the “Intentions” release marks a milestone for the Nigerian music ecosystem: this could be one of the first widely publicized cases where an AI-generated choir or vocal layer is incorporated into a commercial release — not as a hidden remix, but as part of the official catalog.
At a time when debates over AI and music often center on ethics, deepfakes, and exploitation, Fave’s measured response, consulting original creators, legitimizing the track properly, owning the narrative sets a possible blueprint for responsible AI-use in art. It asks: if fans are moved, and if real artists are mindful of respect and transparency, can AI-driven music become a valid new frontier?
At a broader level, Fave’s move may push conversations around copyrights, creative ownership, and AI’s role in music to the forefront of the industry’s next phase. As AI evolves, the decisions artists make now could shape whether the technology becomes a tool for innovation — or a challenge to authenticity.
Either way, with this move, Fave has opened the door to a future where human and machine-generated artistry increasingly blur — and where the heart of music might expand beyond what we once thought possible.
