Nigerian producer Tempoe has reached a new career high as his smash hit “Soweto” (with Victony) was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on September 15, 2025, having moved over 500,000 units in the United States through a combination of sales and streaming.
“Soweto” was released on May 5, 2022, and quickly captured global attention. The track features vocals from Victony, and later got a remix that included Don Toliver and Rema, further amplifying its reach beyond Africa. Since its release, Soweto has solidified its place as one of the defining Afrobeats anthems of the decade.
Soweto is not Tempoe’s first brush with RIAA recognition. He previously secured an 8× Platinum award for CKay’s global breakout hit “Love Nwantiti”, and also earned a Gold plaque for Omah Lay’s track “Soso”.
With Soweto now certified Gold, that brings Tempoe’s tally to three RIAA plaques, a strong signal of his consistent hitmaking capacity on an international scale.
